What We Do

Cap Solutions provides forensic mechanical engineering consulting across seven core practice areas. Each engagement is led by a licensed professional engineer with real-world field and litigation experience.

Insurance Claims

Cap Solutions provides independent technical assessment of loss causation for insurers, third-party administrators, and independent adjusters. We evaluate mechanical failures, plumbing losses, water intrusion events, equipment breakdowns, and construction-related claims — providing factual, defensible analysis that informs coverage decisions and dispute resolution.

Our independence from insurer and insured alike positions us as a credible neutral voice in contested claims. We work within the adjuster's timeline and produce clear, organized reports suitable for claims files and litigation support.

Litigation & Expert Witness

Cap Solutions is structured to serve attorneys in both plaintiff and defense matters. Brad Capatch, P.E. functions as a retained expert — providing detailed written reports, rebuttals to opposing expert opinions, and testimony at deposition, mediation, and trial.

All opinions are grounded in physical evidence, applicable codes and standards, and engineering first principles. Reports are structured for Daubert and FRCP Rule 26 compliance, with clear methodology disclosure and reproducible analysis.

Construction Defects

Mechanical system failures in buildings are among the most disputed claims in construction litigation. Cap Solutions investigates failures in plumbing, HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems in residential, commercial, and multifamily properties — identifying whether a failure results from design deficiency, improper installation, material failure, or deferred maintenance.

We work with owners, contractors, developers, and their counsel to establish cause and apportion responsibility based on physical findings and applicable construction codes.

Plumbing System Defects HVAC Failures Pipe Failures Code Compliance Installation Defects

Maritime Engineering

Hawaii's maritime economy — from commercial fishing and harbor operations to recreational boating and inter-island logistics — creates a distinct set of mechanical failure scenarios. Cap Solutions investigates vessel mechanical system failures, marine engine failures, propulsion and steering system malfunctions, and equipment failures on vessels and waterfront structures.

We support maritime attorneys, vessel owners, marine insurers, and P&I clubs in understanding the technical facts of marine incidents.

Crane & Heavy Equipment

Brad Capatch holds background as a former Washington State-certified crane certifier, providing a unique foundation for crane-related failure investigations. Cap Solutions investigates crane mechanical failures, rigging failures, load path deficiencies, maintenance failures, and incidents involving forklifts, boom lifts, and other heavy lifting equipment.

Our engineering analysis goes beyond the incident — examining design compliance, inspection history, operator training documentation, and applicable ASME, OSHA, and ANSI standards.

Crane Failure Analysis Rigging Failure ASME B30 Standards OSHA Compliance Review Heavy Equipment Incidents

Food Processing

Food and beverage processing facilities operate under demanding mechanical conditions with strict sanitary requirements. Cap Solutions investigates equipment failures, conveyance system failures, sanitary system defects, and processing equipment malfunctions — with attention to applicable FDA, USDA, and industry-specific standards.

Our analysis supports facility owners, equipment manufacturers, insurers, and their legal counsel in understanding the engineering facts of food processing incidents.

Equipment Failure Sanitary Systems Conveyance Failures FDA / USDA Standards Product Liability

Transportation

Vehicle and equipment mechanical failures are a frequent element of transportation incident litigation. Cap Solutions analyzes mechanical system failures in automobiles, trucks, commercial vehicles, and off-road equipment — evaluating whether a mechanical deficiency contributed to an incident or was a consequence of it.

We support accident reconstruction teams, plaintiff and defense attorneys, and insurers with independent mechanical engineering opinions grounded in physical examination and applicable standards.
